((o))eco offers a free environmental journalism course for Legal Amazon students

Environmental reporting website ((o))eco will run a 2nd mini environmental journalism course for communication students from the Legal Amazon states of Acre, Amapa, Amazonas, Para, Matu- Grosu, Maranhao, Rondonia, Roraima and Tocantins. The entry is already open. The course, which will run from 23 to 26 May, is run in collaboration with the Instituto do Homem e Meio Ambiente da Amazônia (Imazon) and the Fundação Amazônia Sustentável (FAS).

In 2021, 50 students took part in the course, and six of them won a scholarship of 2000 reais for the preparation of the report. This year, 100 places are available for the course, which will take place online.

At the end of the training, participants in the mini-course will be offered four reportable grants in the amount of R$ 3,000.00. Those selected will go through a mentoring process with the ((o))eco team and their reports will be published on the website, one of the largest environmental journalism media in the country.

As a novelty of this issue, on the last day of the course, May 26, at 18:00, there will be an open table (broadcast via Youtube) on the topic of Amazon and elections, where journalists and researchers will discuss the topic.

The goal of the course is to educate students on major social and environmental issues and to engage their attention by increasing the number of environmental journalists who are able to cover the topic in detail and accurately.

“The event is in line with the mission of Associação O Eco, which aims to educate new communicators to be mindful of environmental regulations. Geographically shortening only for students from the states of the Legal Amazon is a way we have found to regionalize the debate and encourage these students to increase their journalistic voices in defense of the Amazon. In addition, they will have a great opportunity to listen and talk to important journalists and get to know famous vehicles,” says ((o))eco content director Marcio Isensee i Sa.
