The kitchen has been considered the most magical place in the home since ancient times. This is because here we have four elements together: air, water, earth and fire. Here we also transform the state of food and can prepare magical potions known as teas, soups and pies. Well, all of these recipes that are part of our daily lives can be enchanted for specific purposes.
Amanda Celli, creator of @temperodebruxa and author of the book of the same name, calls herself a kitchen witch. She says the term is used to refer to a person who practices witchcraft and whose main focus in their magical journey is food, herbs and spices.
A biologist by training, as a child she watched documentaries about herbs and plants and enjoyed being outdoors. She soon discovered that her aunt was a lonely witch and ended up taking the first steps on this journey inspired by her. However, Amanda approached the kitchen during her university days when she worked full time in addition to her studies and did not have a satisfactory diet, which ended up in the hospital several times.
“I realized that I would have to find a source of healing in herbs and food, and kitchen witchcraft was my great ally. And this is what a kitchen witch is, a person who, in the process of cooking, has found her way to create and establish a connection of love and devotion with nature, finding magic in the simplicity of everyday life, turning small gestures into powerful rituals,” says Amanda.
According to her, a person can be considered a kitchen witch regardless of their religion or even their path in witchcraft, which can be through paganism, wicca, natural, traditional or eclectic witchcraft. To do this, simply be aware of the magical ability that exists in the process of cooking, and do it consciously.
soul of the house
Amanda emphasizes that every home has a soul, and of all the spaces, the kitchen is the most special. Considered the heart of the house, it is like a center of power in which the nourishing energy of Mother Earth is generated and distributed to all the inhabitants of this house. Therefore, it becomes a real sacred place.
“It is in the kitchen that the witch finds her greatest source of strength: herbs and food. Thus, this heart becomes a sacred place where the witch accesses the power of nature to transform her inner world with the help of magical products. says the witch.
A good way to start turning your kitchen into a sacred space is to create a small altar to bless the herbs and foods that will be used as ingredients in cooking recipes. Another way is to place symbols and colors in the design of the space that match the energy you want to bring to the environment.
Intent is important
But how to cook magically? The answer is simple: set an intention. Amanda claims that when a witch is in the kitchen, she has a unique connection to all the ingredients she uses in her recipes. Therefore, you can use them for specific purposes, such as bringing more health, love, and abundance.
“All herbs and foods, such as cereals, vegetables, vegetables and fruits, have magical properties and are a gift from Mother Earth to help us in the process of transforming our lives. Therefore, they can be used in the preparation of culinary recipes to help manifest on this plane what we desire in any area of our lives.
To make food magical, the first step is to choose recipes with ingredients that have magical properties according to your desire. For example, laurel for prosperity, strawberries for bringing the processes of emotional balance, garlic for removing negative energies and salt itself, which is considered one of the best ways to cleanse.
“When starting witchcraft in the kitchen, it is important to put things in order. Light a candle and turn on music that will take you into a magical atmosphere are good tips. personal strength with the energy of nature present in the ingredients. In this way, you will create a path that directly connects your heart with your intention throughout the preparation of the recipe, ”Amanda teaches.
Freedom to do magic
However, she remembers: kitchen witchcraft is not a formal way, she is free to create this connection in different ways. If you are going to eat in a restaurant, for example, you can choose a dish, also thinking about the magical properties of the ingredients, and say a prayer before eating to convey your intention.
“Eating enchanted food, you transfer the intention that worked according to the recipe into your body, which will assimilate these energies at all levels (physical, mental, emotional and spiritual), transforming your inner world through the food you eat. Change your vibration pattern. “These energies will operate in the outer world to manifest your intent on this plane of existence,” he states.
The witch also points out that herbs and foods can also be used to create other magic, such as teas, herbal baths, tinctures, amulets, talismans, incense, creams, and more. It is important to remember that we also absorb the energy we radiate during any culinary preparation. So: be calm before you heat the stove and stir with a wooden spoon.
“The magic of food has existed since the beginning of human history. In many cultures, food plays a central role in religious ceremonies and other rituals. that we are establishing a connection with nature, the true source of all magic,” he concludes.
Below Amanda teaches one of the recipes from her book.
Apple pie and autumn spices
In this cake, we will use an apple that has magical properties associated with love, personal power and wisdom. It will strengthen our personal power through love, boost our self-confidence, and awaken a sense of passion for life. The apple is also considered the main fruit of autumn, celebrated by witches on a day called Mabon’s Sabbath.
1 tea cup oil
2 cups sugar
2 cups wheat flour
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon powder
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg powder
1/4 teaspoon clove powder
4 small red apples, diced, peeled (important: save the peel to use in the recipe)
1 tablespoon dry chemical yeast
In a blender, mix eggs, butter, sugar and apple zest. Whisk until smooth. Then, in a bowl, sift dry ingredients (wheat flour, baking powder and spices) through a sieve and mix well.
Then mix the liquid mixture into the dry mixture until a homogeneous mass is obtained. Add the diced apples and stir to distribute throughout the dough.
Then put the finished dough into a large baking dish (buttered and floured – if not, use good quality parchment paper to keep the cake from sticking).
Place in preheated oven at 180°C and bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown. The time may vary depending on the oven, so be careful and check with a toothpick for doneness.
Finally, remove from oven and let cool before serving. If desired, sprinkle with powdered sugar and cinnamon on top. Ready! Thank Mother Earth for her blessings and feel the magic of the apple in every bite.
